SOCAN trying to screw Canadians.... again.
Canada to tax legal digital music downloads
This is not a sales tax, it's a SOCAN contribute to our anti-piracy fund tax. You buying legal downloads, and Socan demands you to pay extra to help them 'fight' piracy.
Um... Hello!... by buying music online, legally, we're already fighting piracy, you brain dead, money grubbing dipshits.
Companies and organizations like Socan and CPCC are doing their best to kill the entire Canadian music industry with their complete bullshit taxes and duties.
First, duties on every blank CD, DVD, and cassette because obviously you are only using them to illegally copy music, not back up your business documents and files.
Next, the Canadian Private Copying Collective's (CPCC, aka SOCAN's twin, idiot brother) is demanding up to an extra $75 'tax' on MP3 Players and ipods, because, obvious, you couldn't possibly have bought all that music you're going to fill it up with, so you must have pirated or stolen music.
Now this anti-piracy tax aimed squarely at the people who are obviously not stealing music in the first place. You know, the very people buying legal music from online stores like iTunes?
SOCAN, CPCC, either remove your heads from your collective asses and stop your money-grubbing bullshit taxes, or go fuck yourselves.
